On the off chance any of you are in Minneapolis or the surrounding area and would like to help:

We’re having a benefit yard sale for Sampson’s care September 11th-13th in front of our home in NE Minneapolis. Please pass the word along to anyone who might be interested in donating and/or going to the sale. You can email me at withahyphen at gmail dot com. More details below:

As some of you may have heard, our dear little dog Sampson sustained a spinal injury earlier this week. As some of you may also know, Paul lost his job the week before. We’re struggling to give him the best care possible, and while the recommendation is to put him on steroids rather than surgery, we have to do everything we can over the next month to prevent the need for surgery in the future. He basically can’t be left alone for the next month, and must be prevented from jumping and walking more than is absolutely necessary. This is difficult because the longer he takes the meds and the better he feels, the more he thinks he should be able to be as active as he once was. We have to keep him from moving to prevent compression on his spine, and the resulting nerve issues from the spinal injury are making it difficult for him to use his left front and back leg, so he is very unsteady and prone to falling. He’s not happy about being prevented from activity, but his spirits are good now that he’s on meds, and he’s pouring oceans of love as always.

Paul’s unemployment is making his care easier, but not the payment of the vet bills. In addition to more xrays and meds, we would also like to get him acupuncture with a holistic vet, as that treatment has had a lot of success with his type of injury. We really want to do the best we can for him.

We are organizing a benefit yard sale to help defray some of the costs of his care, tentatively planned for September 11th-13th. It will be in the front yard of our place; I can provide the address if you are interested. If you have any unused, unwanted goods that you would like to donate for us to sell, please let me know as soon as you can! All proceeds will go to Sampson’s care, and all unsold items will be donated to Value Village after the sale is done. We are looking for books, clothing, household or handmade goods and furniture. Basically anything you no longer need that is in good shape or have made and would like to donate to the cause would be perfect! Every little thing helps!

Please let me know if you plan on donating. The sale will be going on 1-7pm on Friday the 11th, 7am-5pm Saturday and 8am-4pm Sunday. Feel free to stop by and peruse the goods and pass this along to anyone you think might be interested in donating and/or coming to the sale. If you come on Saturday between 9-1, you can check out the amazing Northeast Farmers’ Market less than a block away. Feel free to repost this.

Thank you so much in advance for any way you can help us give our buddy Sampson the best care we can. This will help him be on the road to recovery soon, and be able to enjoy his life with us with the same vigor, curiosity and joy as always. He is a blessing to us, and so are you!
